Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect if we work together?
We’re an independent registered investment advisor and fiduciary. This means we’re not tied to specific products or strategies and are legally obligated to put your best interests first. While we’re headquartered in Central Illinois, we frequently work with people remotely throughout the U.S.
What if I already have an advisor and just want a second look or to ask a question?
Most of our clients have come from other advisors. Retirees and soon-to-be retirees often use our AIM Retirement Assessment™ to ask questions without any obligation. If we are a good fit, we will schedule an introductory call.
How does the AIM Retirement System™ process work?
Since our beginning in 1999, founders Chris and Jamie Cyr believed financial planning should be holistic. For them, this meant working with a group of experts to manage several critical elements in one unified, coordinated direction. The AIM Retirement System™ is a three-step process (Assess, Implement, Monitor) and is the beginning of your journey to a comfortable and confident retirement. Do you assist with tax planning and optimization?
At Cyr Financial, you’ll never hear the words, “You’ll have to speak to your tax advisor.” Our staff of CPAs has over 75 years of combined tax experience, and taxes are an area we specialize in. Roth conversions, tax-loss harvesting, tax-efficient security placement and tax preparation are in the DNA of our firm. For fluidity and simplicity, we generally prepare our clients’ tax returns. Want to work with your own CPA? No problem. In those cases, we act as the general contractor in your financial life and coordinate directly with your CPA.
What services do you offer besides investment management?
We believe our industry is fraught with advisors who merely invest your money and do very little else to truly add value. In reality, investing is only a small part of a comprehensive and confident retirement. Our typical client is fully engaged in our AIM Retirement System™, which manages a retiree’s guaranteed income, health care, taxes, Social Security, long-term care, estate planning and investments. How do you charge for your services?
As a fiduciary, we are bound by law to always act in our clients’ best interests. We charge a percentage of assets managed. Very simply, we only make more money when our clients make more money. We believe in transparency — our clients see their fees very clearly on every statement. Here is more information about Our Fees.
Where will my money be? Do I still own the accounts?
Your money is typically held at Charles Schwab, an independent custodian. The accounts stay in your name, and we act as your advisor with limited authority to manage them on your behalf.
